Water Baptism

Entering a New Covenant relationship with Jesus Christ requires repentance from sin and a profession of faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Repentance is the initial step of turning away from sin toward a new life in Christ. Repentance is followed by obedience to what Jesus taught, and that is to be baptized in water. We believe that the Scriptures tell us and show by example that water baptism is to be practiced publicly. Baptism is an outward announcement of faith in Jesus as a believer submits to being baptized in His name, openly acknowledging repentance of sins and a turn from the former way of life. Peter said, “repent and be baptized… in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins,” (Acts 2:38). By being immersed in water a believer comes to relate to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus by dying to self (repenting and shedding the old way of life), being buried in water and rising to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3-8). As this outward action takes place, the Holy Spirit does an inward work on the heart.
